Sr. Accounting Manager
About the role
We're building a finance function that stays ahead of the curve — leveraging AI, automation, and modern tooling to operate at the pace Databricks demands. The Senior Manager, Accounting, that we are looking to add to the team will lead key areas of our global close, including GL, cloud infrastructure spend, accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, cash, leases, and related balance sheet areas. This is a hands-on, player-coach role leading a small team and reporting to the Senior Director of Accounting. Close quality is non-negotiable.
Responsibilities
- Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close across key global accounting areas, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and strong control execution.
- Lead and develop a small team; set clear expectations, coach through the work, and raise the bar on ownership and review quality.
- Leverage AI and automation across core close areas using tools like Databricks to automate manual calculations, improve accrual accuracy, accelerate balance sheet reconciliations, and reduce close cycle times.
- Apply strong U.S. GAAP judgment to complex close areas, especially cloud infrastructure spend, vendor spend, usage-based accruals, capitalization considerations, fixed assets, leases, cash, and other accounting areas.
- Owning balance sheet integrity for your areas, including reconciliations, flux analysis, variance explanations, and support for period-over-period movements.
- Standardizing and governing global accounting processes across your areas, ensuring consistency across entities and regions.
- Partnering with Finance Transformation team to redesign processes, reduce manual work, improve data quality, and accelerate the close.
- Supporting external audit requests for your areas with timely, well-supported documentation.
- Playing a key Accounting role in the SAP implementation, partnering on process design, testing, data readiness, cutover, and post-go-live stabilization for your areas.
- Partnering cross-functionally with FP&A, Procurement, AP, and broader Finance teams to resolve issues at the source.
Requirements
- 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including close ownership across complex global accounting areas such as GL, accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, cash, and leases.
- 2+ years of people management experience, with a demonstrated ability to coach and develop others on technical accounting concepts while maintaining a high-quality, efficient close.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA), SOX experience, and Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance required.
- Experience with ERP systems; SAP experience preferred. ERP implementation experience is a plus.
- Familiarity with tools like FloQast, Zip, or Emburse is a plus.
- Hands-on experience deploying or evaluating AI tools in a finance or accounting context, with proven ability to improve close processes through automation, process redesign, or stronger operating discipline. Familiarity with data platforms like Databricks is a strong plus.
- High ownership, low ego, detail-oriented, fast-moving, direct communicator, and calm under pressure. Open-minded and change-oriented.
- High-growth technology company experience strongly preferred. Public accounting background preferred.
