Sr Accountant- General Accounting

Location: Brooklyn Heights • Biweekly Hours: 80.00 • Shift: 8am-5pm

Performs accounting functions with a high level of complexity including timely and accurate reporting, monthly financial analysis, reconciliations, and audit schedules, to support the System and its related entities’ financial statements. Demonstrates the highest standards of accuracy and sound reasoning and conducts comprehensive research and analysis to inform management, make recommendations for improvement, and implement changes where applicable. Evaluates Accounting practices and methods for reporting to optimize efficiency, accuracy and compliance with financial reporting standards. Upholds the mission, vision, values, and customer service standards of The MetroHealth System.

Responsibilities

• Perform complex accounting functions including timely and accurate financial reporting
• Conduct monthly financial analysis, reconciliations, and prepare audit schedules
• Support the System and its related entities’ financial statements
• Conduct comprehensive research and analysis to inform management decisions
• Make recommendations for improvement and implement changes
• Evaluate accounting practices and methods to optimize efficiency, accuracy, and compliance with financial reporting standards

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting or other related field
• Minimum of four years of financial accounting experience
• Minimum of two years public accounting or financial reporting experience
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, with intermediate proficiency in MS Excel
• Strong presentation, written, and oral communication skills
• Ability to function at a high level in a demanding environment
• Ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, and produce quality results with strong attention to detail
• Willingness to work additional hours as needed (e.g., during month-end close process)
• Ability to interact effectively with diverse cultural, ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds

Preferred Qualifications

• Current CPA license
• Master’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, or Accounting
• Advanced MS Excel and Access skills
• Accounting experience in the healthcare industry
• Experience with Lawson Software
