Primary Job Responsibilities
- Prepare financial reporting schedules in compliance with IFRS to support monthly, quarterly and annual close processes
- Prepare annual U.S. GAAP financial statements for U.S. legal entities
- Ensure timely and accurate reporting in compliance with internal policies and external requirements
- Serve as primary liaison with external auditors, including coordination of audit schedules and responses to audit requests
- Prepare comprehensive audit deliverables, including preparation of quarterly analysis and fulfillment of documentation requests to support quarterly reviews and annual audits performed by external auditors
- Provide ad hoc financial analysis and reporting as requested by management
- Lead internal control processes and champion continuous accounting process improvement initiatives
- Possess cross-functional partnership with Asset, Legal, and Commercial teams to understand transactions and ensure appropriate accounting treatment
- Research, assess, and document technical accounting matters under both IFRS and U.S. GAAP, with emphasis on upstream oil & gas topics including asset retirement obligations, impairments, revenue recognition, joint arrangements and acquisitions/divestitures
- Draft accounting memos and support positions on complex or non-routine transactions
- Maintain awareness of new accounting standards and assess their impacts to the business
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, active CPA license required
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably with upstream or integrated oil and gas industry experience
- Public accounting experience (audit or accounting advisory), with oil & gas clients preferred
- Strong working knowledge of IFRS and U.S. GAAP and financial reporting requirements
- Advanced Excel skills and experience utilizing an enterprise-grade ERP system (SAP preferred)
- Experience with legal entity financial statements and multi-entity structures
- Exposure to acquisitions, divestitures, impairments, and reserve-based accounting concepts
- Strong technical accounting and analytical skills, with high attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to see issues from a “big picture” perspective
- Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills, able to interact skillfully with senior leadership and external auditors
- Ability to work independently and manage competing deadlines
