Job Description
- Prepare and record payroll journal entries.
- Reconcile payroll‑related general ledger accounts, including wages, taxes, benefits, and accruals.
- Review and reconcile payroll tax filings and support year‑end processes (W‑2, 1099, etc.).
- Perform month‑end and year‑end close activities related to payroll.
- Partner with HR to resolve payroll discrepancies and employee inquiries.
- Enter reconciliations and management reports for accuracy and completeness.
- Ensure compliance with accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
- Ensure accurate recording of wages, taxes, benefits, and payroll‑related accruals.
- Analyze payroll trends and variances; identify and resolve issues proactively.
- Monitor compliance with wage and hour laws, tax regulations, and internal controls.
- Serve as point of contact on payroll accounting policies and best practices.
- Stay current on accounting standards and assess the impact of new regulations payroll accounting.
- Support audits (internal, external, and regulatory) by providing documentation and explanations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field.
- 5-7 years of payroll or payroll accounting experience; multi‑state experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of payroll regulations, tax laws, and accounting principles.
- Proficiency with payroll systems (e.g., UKG, ADP, Workday) and Excel.
- Excellent attention to detail, analytical skills, and problem‑solving ability.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work with confidential information.
- Experience with large or complex payroll environments.
- Knowledge of GAAP and payroll‑related accounting standards.
- Experience with process automation or system implementations.
- CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) or FPC certification is a plus.
