We are looking for an experienced Sr. Accountant to join a non-profit organization in Catonsville, Maryland in a fully onsite contract-to-permanent role. This position will provide critical day-to-day accounting support while partnering closely with finance leadership to strengthen core accounting operations and maintain accurate financial reporting.
Responsibilities
- Lead monthly close activities, ensuring financial records are updated accurately and reporting deadlines are met.
- Prepare and post journal entries while maintaining the integrity of the general ledger.
- Perform detailed reconciliations for bank accounts and balance sheet accounts, identifying and resolving discrepancies promptly.
- Support billing and related accounting transactions to ensure complete and accurate revenue tracking.
- Assist with budget monitoring and forecasting activities by compiling data and analyzing financial results.
- Coordinate audit preparation by organizing schedules, supporting documentation, and responding to finance-related requests.
- Partner with finance leadership to learn essential daily accounting processes and provide reliable operational backup coverage.
- Use QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel to manage accounting data, prepare reports, and improve financial visibility.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including work at the senior accountant level.
- Demonstrated expertise in month-end close, general ledger maintenance, and journal entry preparation.
- Strong background in account reconciliations and bank reconciliations with close attention to detail.
- Experience supporting financial audits and preparing documentation for audit review.
- Working knowledge of billing processes, budgeting, and financial forecasting.
- Proficiency with QuickBooks and advanced capability in Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to work fully onsite in Catonsville, Maryland and adapt to a hands-on, fast-paced environment.
