About the Role

As a Supplier Quality Development Engineer (SQDE) Electronics, you will ensure process standardization for launch programs, primarily supporting Magna Powertrain (MPT) North America (NA). Your focus will be on flawless launch initiatives and compliance for MPT NA programs.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct supplier-related audits (Supplier Capability Assessments, Run-at-Rates, Manufacturing Capability Audits, Control Plan Audits) for potential, new, and current suppliers, and take necessary actions.
  • Monitor supplier performance (Incidents, PPM’s, COPQ) and develop/implement action plans to improve poor-performing suppliers.
  • Identify supplier improvements (process, quality system) and ensure effective actions are taken to enhance KMIs.
  • Issue supplier performance PC’s and follow through to completion.
  • Disposition supplier PPAP’s and 8D’s (5-Why).
  • Manage the Cost Recovery process with suppliers.
  • Coordinate Supplier Change Requests.
  • Support manufacturing locations on supplier-related performance issues (conduct 8D verification, review containment process).
  • Conduct supplier quality procedure/process training and awareness activities (SRM, PPAP, etc.).
  • Support new program launches, supplier localization, and resourcing projects.
  • Practice and maintain integrity while following Magna’s Charter and Constitution.
  • Adhere to Magna’s Code of Conduct and Ethics and related compliance policies.
  • Support and adhere to policies, procedures, and operational guidelines related to the established quality management system (IATF).
  • Drive the development of new technologies to improve quality, efficiency, and reduce cost.
  • Comply with safety policies and procedures to ensure duties are performed safely.
  • Understand and follow Environmental, Health & Safety policies, reporting unsafe conditions, injuries, accidents, or near misses immediately.
  • Comply with requirements for machine operation and Personal Proteive Equipment (PPE).
  • Create a positive work environment by demonstrating and sharing functional/technical knowledge.
  • Develop and maintain responsive, cooperative relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Complete additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; degree in engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, or Electrical) preferred.
  • 3–10 years of experience in Supplier Quality Development.
  • 6–10 years of experience in Powdered Metal.
  • 2–4 years of experience in Plant Operations.
  • Experience in the following commodities is a plus: Aluminum Castings, Iron Castings, Forgings, Electronics, Stampings, Power Metal, Fasteners, Injection Molding.
  • Experience in Metallurgical/Metals background.
  • Proficient in ISO/TS16949 and problem-solving tools (8D, 5-Why, Drill Deep and Wide, Shainan, Six Sigma).
  • Manufacturing experience in molding, stamping, assembly, rubber extrusions, plating.
  • Proficient in AIAG core tools: PPAP, APQP, Control Plans, FMEA, MSA, and SPC.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Skills

  • Self-motivated with a drive for improvement.
  • Strong communication skills.

Work Environment

  • Office-based work with physical activities such as walking, lifting, crouching, and climbing during audits and supplier facility assessments.
  • Requires stamina, visual acuity, and manual dexterity.
  • Ability to travel 50–80% (domestic and international); valid passport required.
  • Exposure to machinery, moving equipment, moderate noise, airborne particles, fumes, and varying temperatures from manufacturing processes.
