Sprinkler Sales Representative - Outside Sales

About the role
The primary function of this role is to sell new contracts for sprinkler systems. The employee will be responsible for bidding contract work, creating job schedules, coordinating the delivery of tools, identifying and managing the personnel assigned to each project, and tracking labor efficiency. This position reports directly to the Branch Manager and requires the ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasked environment with a focus on sales, prospecting for new clients, and customer service. Travel to potential and existing customer sites is required.
Responsibilities
- Identify, select, and develop new and existing customer accounts.
- Establish and maintain effective communication with customers to ensure satisfaction with products and services.
- Ensure contractual obligations are met and actively resolve customer problems.
- Provide quotes to customers for service and follow up on impairments.
- Schedule sales calls, follow up on leads, and utilize marketing strategies to qualify potential buyers of fire protection contracts.
- Determine customer needs and develop sales strategies to gain understanding of company offerings.
- Close sufficient sales to exceed sales plan objectives.
- Read blueprints and understand current NFPA 13, 14, and 20 standards and local codes.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with existing and new customers, general contractors, and end users.
- Build new business associations and grow the fire protection business.
- Collaborate with branch personnel to ensure excellent customer service from order to delivery and beyond.
- Perform customer surveys as required or requested.
- Develop and maintain vendor relations.
- Obtain all required licensing and manufacturers’ certifications to perform job functions.
- Complete proper scheduling and execution of monthly calls as assigned by management.
- Execute all company processes and complete required paperwork accurately and in a timely manner.
- Enhance sales skills and product knowledge to promote a professional image in the field.
- Read architectural and mechanical drawings to determine proper sprinkler locations for new construction and remodel projects.
- Travel to customer and job sites as required.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED is required.
- Associate’s degree in a technical or business discipline or related experience in the sprinkler fire suppression business is a plus.
- 2+ years of experience selling service contracts in the Fire Protection industry is required.
- Previous sprinkler design experience, including estimating and performing hydraulic calculations, is a plus.
- Working knowledge of NFPA 13, 14, and 20 is required.
- Knowledge of industry standard practices for service and inspection is required.
Physical Demands

- Occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
- Occasionally required to walk, crouch, lift, pull/push, crawl, stoop, and reach with hands and arms.
- Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Strength rating: light work, entailing exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently.
- Operation of a computer, telephone, hand calculator, copiers/fax machine is required.
- Must be able to understand simple math, shop math, simple drawings, financial reports, legal documents, simple memos, and business letters.
- Must be able to write simple memos, summaries, and business letters.
- May require commuting to customer and company locations by land and air.
