Job Responsibilities
- Mentor and coach new team members as we assign new projects in New Construction.
- Design and layout sprinkler systems using specialized CAD software packages that are based on the AutoCAD platform.
- Cook up sprinkler system piping with other building components.
- Perform hydraulic calculations.
- Read and interpret construction documents, including drawings, specifications, and contracts.
- Interpret and apply applicable NFPA standards to the design and/or layout of the sprinkler systems based on the building type, construction type, hazard classification and architectural features.
- Perform field check of completed design to verify accuracy, if required.
- Work closely with the Estimation department, Design Manager, and Operations Manager to review the scope sheet and requirements of each project.
- Cook up projects to meet deadlines.
- Communicate with AHJs, contractors, and other trades.
- Cook up with team members for listing of required materials.
- Cook up with team members for permitting and inspection requirements.
- Actively participate in predesign and review meetings.
- Identify opportunities for cost-saving measures and quality improvement.
- Adhere to company safety policies and procedures to ensure all duties are performed in a safe and professional manner.
- Provide outstanding customer service.
Requirements
- A High School diploma or GED is required.
- Must have experience with designing fire sprinkler systems.
- NICET Level I - IV certification is preferred.
- RME-G Required.
Skills and Competencies
- Proficient in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office is required.
- HydraCAD is preferred.
- Visualizes 3D concepts and solves basic mathematic problems, including geometry and algebra.
- Proficient in interpreting and applying applicable NFPA standards, and in reading and interpreting construction documents.
- Must obtain and retain any licenses that are required by national, state/province, and local codes.
- Experience with a variety of system types and manufacturers.
- Strong knowledge of industry codes such as IFC, NFPA, IBC, and NEC.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural, electrical, and mechanical drawings.
- Ability to maintain accurate and auditable records.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced service/construction team environment.
- Attention to detail with emphasis on accuracy and quality.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to travel as needed.
Physical Requirements
- 75% Office Setting, including sitting, some bending, some lifting, walking and viewing.
- 25% driving.
