Spray Technician ($1,000 Sign-On Incentive)

About the role
Responsible for applying herbicide to manage vegetation in and along stormwater drainage canals, water retention ponds, and ditches. Under general supervision, employees mix, load, and spray herbicide using backpack sprayers, spray trucks, UTVs, or boats to manage invasive plants. Daily responsibilities include completing spray records, calibrating and maintaining spray equipment, and organizing work areas for efficiency and safety.
Responsibilities
- Calculate application rates from product label directions.
- Perform routine maintenance on application equipment for efficient, safe use.
- Work independently to complete assigned tasks based on Department/Division needs.
- May perform additional duties based on Stormwater Division operational requirements.
Requirements
- Two years of experience in outdoor maintenance and use of commercial landscape, tractors, or other medium to light-duty equipment.
- Physical ability to withstand inclement weather conditions while working outside and sufficient strength to carry heavy equipment.
- Possess and maintain a valid Florida Restricted Use of Pesticide license (aquatic, right-of-way, or ornamental/turf) or ability to obtain within the first 6 months of employment.
- Possess and maintain an applicable Florida driver license or ability to obtain within 6 months.
Preferences
- Experience mixing, loading, and applying herbicide in a commercial, government, or large-scale environment.
- Ability to work in hot, humid conditions and remote locations with no shade.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds for short distances.
Pay
Pay Grade: 10 - From $18.10 to $22.97 per hour. Placement based on education and experience. This position may be eligible for a sign-on incentive (current County employees are not eligible).
