Spotlight on Maryland - Investigative Journalist

About the role

Sinclair’s Spotlight on Maryland is seeking Investigative Journalists to produce impactful stories for digital, social, print, and television platforms. The ideal candidate will have strong news judgment, compelling storytelling skills, and the ability to hold government officials accountable.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain contacts and sources to identify investigative story ideas
• Identify and pitch investigative angles on significant news stories
• Collaborate with local and corporate news leadership to refine investigative pitches and story scripts
• Write online, print, and broadcast versions of investigative reports
• Create digital-specific content for each investigation
• Contribute to a dynamic, collaborative team environment

Qualifications

• Three (3) years of reporting/producing experience preferred
• Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred
• Strong news judgment and storytelling skills
• Ability to use all available tools to enhance stories, including graphics and social media
• Experience generating story ideas and verifying viewer tips
• Excellent writing and research skills
• Knowledge of FOIA process, computer-assisted reporting, and data-driven reporting
• Familiarity with legal issues related to investigative journalism
