Spot Truck Operator Trainee (2nd Shift)

DG Foods is seeking a qualified and enthusiastic Spot Truck Operator Trainee for our facilities in Bastrop, LA.

About the role

You will operate a Spot Truck with the utmost care to ensure efficiency and safety. Duties include maneuvering full-sized refrigerated semi-trailers to and from the shipping dock and other areas within the shipping yard.

Responsibilities

• Maneuver refrigerated trailers in and around the shipping yard in an efficient and safe manner utilizing a designated spotter.
• Identify damages and report any shipping container deficiencies.
• Maintain and clean equipment, including daily pre-operation checklists and pass/fail inspections.
• Check all loaded trailers are properly sealed.
• Perform pre-operation inspections daily and report all deficiencies or damage.
• Notify supervisor for Tag Out or Removal from service if Spot Truck doesn't pass inspection.
• Transport raw materials to assigned loading areas.
• Inspect machinery to determine the need for repairs and perform regular maintenance to guarantee safety.
• Keep updated records and activity logs.
• Comply with company policies and legal guidelines.
• Help maintain a safe and orderly environment for the facilities.
• Perform all other duties as assigned, including operating a pallet jack and forklift.
• Keep truck clean (inside & out) and perform daily maintenance (grease fifth wheel, diesel fueling, DEP filling, etc.).

Requirements

• Must be coachable and possess a valid driver’s license.
• One (1) year of experience operating a Spot/Yard truck and/or “Over the road” truck and trailer combination.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing/production environment.
• Attention to detail and familiarity with industrial equipment.
• At least eighteen (18) years of age.
• Legally eligible to work in accordance with federal and state law.
• Dependable transportation to and from DG Food facilities (no exceptions).
• Ability to work various hours, holidays, and weekends.
• Must always wear all required Personal Prote Equipment (PPE) when required.
• Must pass an internal skills assessment with a score of 80% or above and demonstrate the required skill set.
• High school diploma or equivalent (other combinations of experience and education will be considered).

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work in a cold and wet environment.
• Must be able to work standing, walking, and sitting for extended periods of time.
• Ability to lift and maneuver up to 70 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
