About the Role

This position is responsible for safely and efficiently operating off-highway haul trucks (off-road) to transport crushed stone, sand and gravel, and other materials within quarries, pits, yards, and/or plants. The Off-Road Haul Truck Driver will operate rigid frame and/or articulated haul trucks of varying sizes, ensuring the efficient and safe movement of materials while adhering to all Vulcan and government rules and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Operate off-road haul trucks to transport material within Vulcan facilities.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of truck controls and functions, including air brakes, emergency procedures, and safe operating practices.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the truck, reporting any maintenance needs or safety concerns.
  • Perform basic maintenance checks on the truck, such as checking fluid levels, functionality, and tire pressure.
  • Collaborate with maintenance teams for repairs and preventive maintenance.
  • Wash haul trucks using high-pressure hoses, steam cleaners, or pressure washers to facilitate thorough inspections.
  • Maintain accurate records of materials hauled and dump locations.
  • Complete necessary paperwork and inspection records.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations and protocols, including wearing appropriate PPE and following MSHA/OSHA regulations.
  • Maintain a safe driving record and high level of situational awareness to prevent accidents.
  • Report any safety concerns, incidents, or equipment malfunctions promptly.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Technical Expertise: Solid mechanical understanding of equipment, including basic maintenance checks and troubleshooting minor issues. Ability to identify signs of equipment malfunction and report them to the maintenance team.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • 2 years of experience operating off-road trucks in a commercial setting (preferred).
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Proven experience operating off-road equipment.
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment safely and efficiently in various conditions.
  • Good communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work with others and manage time effectively.
  • Physical ability to sit for extended periods, withstand vibrations, and operate controls with precision.
  • Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Must have the ability to climb ladders while maintaining three points of contact.

Pay

The hourly range for this role is $21.63 - $32.43. This range is not inclusive of a discretionary bonus or equity package. Compensation is determined based on skillset, experience, job scope, and current market data.

Second shift employees in the Northeast Division receive a 20% shift differential on their base pay for working designated hours.

Schedule

Second shift: Approximate schedule is 1:30 PM – 10:30 PM, Monday through Friday.
