Sports Turf Technician

About the role

The University of Virginia is a highly competitive Division I program committed to academic and athletic excellence. The Department of Athletics at the University of Virginia is now accepting applications for the position of Sports Turf Technician to assist with maintenance of the various outdoor Athletic facilities.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the grounds and assist with all athletics fields.
• Exemplary customer service to internal and external constituencies.
• Perform repair, maintenance and upkeep duties on grounds at various facilities that are utilized by the Athletics Department, student-athletes, sports fans and general public.
• Perform mechanical repairs.
• Aid in the preparation, maintenance, and clean-up of outdoor athletic facilities for games, special events, and day-to-day operations.
• Aid in the set-up and teardown for sports related and various events.
• Aid in the proper care, use and maintenance of equipment, tools and supplies.
• Avoid unsafe practices and ensure tasks are performed in a safe manner.

Requirements

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience: Some prior relevant work experience.

Qualifications

• Experience in general grounds keeping and landscaping preferred.
• Ability to be extremely flexible in terms of work schedule (evenings, weekends, and overtime) required.
• Knowledge of the EPA guidelines for the application and storage of fertilizers and pest control chemicals preferred.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to comply with EPA and University guidelines for the application of fertilizers and pest control chemicals.
• Ability to assist in the care, usage and maintenance of small & tractor engines, power equipment and tools.
• Ability to assist daily in preparation, clean-up, and on-site needs associated with the use of athletic facilities.
• Ability to ensure the safe use of grounds maintenance equipment.

Skills

• Ability to lift various weights.
• Climb ladders and stairs.
• Use both hands and a repetitive motion.

Benefits
