Sports Reporter (Freelance)

Position Overview

We are seeking a creative and dedicated Sports Reporter to join our growing CBS Detroit News Team at CBS 62 (WWJ-TV) and CW50 (WKBD-TV).

Key Responsibilities

• Anchor sports segments and report remotely with professional excellence
• Produce original enterprise content that stands out in the market
• Sell and shoot, edit, write, and produce entertaining and informational stories and sportscasts across multiple platforms
• Create content that serves on-air, online, and streaming audiences
• Develop and execute basic graphics to enhance storytelling
• Contribute to the editorial process with consistent, newsworthy story pitches
• Maintain unwavering commitment to journalistic integrity and accuracy
• Meet daily deadlines while delivering high-quality content
• Apply expert knowledge of social media platforms to connect with audiences and implement station strategy
• Consistently supply compelling material to CBS News Detroit's social media and digital platforms
• Adapt content for various digital formats and audiences

Required Qualifications

• Professional Experience: Prior experience as a Sports Anchor/Reporter in a top 10 market preferred
• Technical Skills: Must be proficient in shooting, writing, editing, and creating basic graphics
• Knowledge & Expertise: Expert knowledge of professional, college, and high school sports; deep understanding of sports journalism best practices; applied knowledge and strategic use of social media platforms
• Personal Attributes: Exceptional time management and organizational skills; proven ability to meet strict deadlines consistently; willingness and availability to work independently on varying schedules including evenings, weekends, and holidays; adaptability and flexibility in a dynamic news environment
