About the role
The Fredericksburg Free Press, a nonprofit newsroom serving five Virginia localities, is seeking a part-time sports writer to cover high-school sports, the Single-A Fredericksburg Nationals, and University of Mary Washington athletics beginning in August.
Responsibilities
This hire will be the point person on a new weekly sports newsletter that lands in the inbox of our 14,000-plus subscribers, producing stories and content that non-rabid sports fans can enjoy, including game coverage, features and short-form video.
Requirements
- Knowledge of Xs and Os is both important and necessary
Pay
Pay starts at $2,000 per month for an expectation of 10-12 stories.
Schedule
The gig starts in August, but freelance opportunities may be available in the run-up to launching the newsletter.
