About the role
We are looking for a versatile, sharp, and highly motivated Sports Producer (Per Diem) to help anchor our sports coverage across broadcast, streaming, and digital platforms in a major sports market. This role is for a true multimedia specialist who can line-produce polished studio shows, cover breaking local sports stories, shoot game highlights, and deliver unscripted live-stream content from the field.
Responsibilities
- Line-produce long-form sports programs and daily sportscasts, writing fast-paced conversational scripts and coordinating dynamic graphic elements.
- Gather content in the field: interview athletes and coaches, shoot game highlights, and edit high-impact feature packages on tight deadlines.
- Present extended, unscripted live coverage from the field using mobile journalism gear, as well as report live in-studio or from major sports venues.
- Develop enterprise stories using local and national sports contacts, break news, and contribute to daily sports department planning.
- Write compelling text copy for digital platforms and optimize sports content for our website and social media channels.
- Travel on short notice or for overnight assignments—domestically or internationally—and utilize file-based systems to feed material back to the station.
Requirements
- Two (2) years of experience producing or reporting sports for a commercial television station or regional sports network (RSN) is preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field is preferred.
- Exceptional sports writing skills with a mastery of conversational copy, grammar, and show pacing.
- Proven capability to independently shoot, edit, and transmit video from remote locations.
- Excellent on-camera/mic delivery for unscripted live reporting and major market press conferences.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and maintain accuracy under intense live sports television deadlines.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Valid passport (or ability to quickly obtain one) for international travel.
- Flexibility to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays to align with major sporting events.
Skills
- Experience with commercial drone flight operations (FAA Part 107) is a strong plus.
Pay
The pay rate/range for this role is $34.37–37.50 per hour, with the final offer amount dependent on education, skills, experience, and location.
