Sports Manager

Elmhurst Family YMCA is seeking a full-time Sports Program Manager to create high-quality, safe programming for members and participants. This role coordinates and supervises day-to-day sports program operations, including planning, promotion, staff scheduling, and gym maintenance. The Sports Program Manager networks with public agencies and community organizations, recruits and trains team members, and ensures program excellence.

Responsibilities

• Assist in scheduling staff to ensure coverage, safety, and quality program delivery.
• Develop program materials and distribute program information.
• Train and supervise new staff and volunteers, including ongoing trainings.
• Conduct staff meetings and in-services as scheduled.
• Act as a primary responder in case of injury, accident, or illness; follow emergency procedures.
• Coordinate the operation of assigned program areas and evaluate program effectiveness for continuous improvement.
• Communicate and train membership team members regarding class registrations and programs.
• Ensure adherence to state, county, and YMCA standards; report accidents and incidents.
• Assist with budget management, including margin analysis and time/attendance tracking.
• Monitor and evaluate performance standards; provide coaching and intervention as needed.
• Manage time and attendance for staff, ensuring accurate recording in the HRIS system.
• Provide direct service in sports and recreation classes and leagues.
• Maintain staff certifications and volunteer documentation.
• Assist with gym and facility usage scheduling and oversee maintenance, cleanliness, and climate control.
• Develop, implement, and oversee a variety of sports programs for members, participants, and the community.
• Assist in operational oversight of onsite summer camp (e.g., scheduling counselors and lifeguards, attendance tracking).
• Partner with the OST/Off-site team for summer camp and after-school programs.
• Support the YMCA’s mission and center operations as needed.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education, Recreation, or related field and/or equivalent experience.
• 2+ years of recreation-related experience.
• Prior team leadership/supervisory experience with the ability to collaborate, motivate, and coach teams.
• Passion for and commitment to the YMCA’s mission.
• Strong customer service orientation; ability to relate well with diverse youth, parents, and volunteers.
• Demonstrated safe and age-appropriate interaction strategies with youth.
• Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills; ability to lead in-services and trainings.
• Ability to organize and prioritize multiple, competing priorities.
• Demonstrated interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders.
• Current, relevant sports training and certifications (e.g., CPR for Professional Rescuer) or ability to be certified within 30 days of hire.
• Ability to meet physical requirements of the job, including stamina, agility, and sudden exertion to safely lead sports programs.
• Commitment to child abuse prevention, including reporting hazards, monitoring supervision, and completing required training.

Pay

Salary range: $43,888–$45,000 per year.
