Position Summary

The YMCA of Upper Palmetto is seeking a Sports Director for one of its flagship branches, Baxter Close YMCA. Located in Baxter Village, a 1700 home master planned development, the YMCA serves as a signature business in the development. Fort Mill, just south of Charlotte, NC, is a growing, thriving area with great schools, fantastic four seasons, numerous food/restaurant options, and great outdoor recreation opportunities.

Operational Responsibilities

  • Work with the District Executive Director to develop, implement, and manage operating plans promoting program and membership growth.
  • Develop and manage annual budget.
  • Provide leadership and direction to Board development activities, including Board Member Prospecting, Cultivation, recruitment, training, and development.
  • Ensure safety and maintenance of facilities, grounds, and equipment to minimize risk to members, participants, and the Association.
  • Manage and coordinate sports programs, ensuring high quality and introducing new activities.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and direct personnel and volunteers as needed.
  • Review and evaluate staff performance, develop strategies to motivate staff, and achieve goals.
  • Develop, manage, and control budgets related to the position.
  • Ensure programs operate within budget and that program fees are collected.
  • Support and budget for healthy eating through coaching, mentoring, and monitoring menu quality.
  • Affirm compliance with state and local regulations relating to program areas.
  • Affirm YMCA program standards and safety procedures.
  • Maintain assigned program facilities and equipment to support healthy living.
  • Lead annual fund-raising campaigns and committees as assigned.
  • Maintain proper records and department files.
  • Organize special events for parents and assist in YMCA fund raising activities.
  • Distribute program information and compile program statistics.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of and participation in programs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree (preferred).
  • Outstanding supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, training, and developing volunteers and staff.
  • Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively work/interact with diverse populations.
  • Computer literate; knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Excel, Word, Outlook, and database management.
  • Stable temperament and high level of maturity.
  • Experience or training significant for Youth programs.
  • Set good examples in promptness, manners, language, appearance, and health.
  • Model relationship-building skills in all interactions.
  • Adapt to changing needs and circumstances.

Pay Range

$21.63 - $26.44 per hour
