Sports Director
WSTM/WTVH/CW6 is seeking an experienced, hands-on Sports Director with a minimum of three years of experience anchoring and reporting sports for a commercial TV station. A passion for storytelling beyond scores and highlights, along with a college degree in journalism or a related field, is required.
Responsibilities
- Field reporting daily, producing stories for newscasts and online platforms
- Videotaping footage (with and without a tripod) for use in stories
- Editing footage for use in stories
- Accurately posting stories online and through social media with still photos and video
- Planning and researching future stories for daily coverage
- Professionally anchoring newscasts by delivering clear, concise sports scripts and providing appropriate unscripted content
- Participating in frequent public appearances and community events
- Writing compelling stories with relentless attention to detail and accuracy
- Lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds
- Maintaining assigned photography gear and vehicles, and operating them safely
- Maintaining a valid driver’s license and a good driving record
- Staying informed of local sports teams
- Meeting daily deadlines
- Other responsibilities as assigned
Requirements
- Minimum of three years of experience anchoring and reporting sports for a commercial TV station
- College degree in journalism or related field
- Strong writing, photography, and nonlinear editing skills
- Demonstrated ability to create memorable stories
- Strong work ethic, time management, and live shot skills
- Knowledge of positioning content on-air, online, mobile, and social media platforms
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a high-energy, creative environment
- Competitive drive and high journalistic and ethical standards under deadline pressure
- Previous supervisory skills a plus
- Reel with examples of both news and sports preferred
Pay
Final compensation range for this role is $48,000 - $55,000 annually, determined by relevant work experience, skills, certifications, and geographic location.
