Sports Dietitian

About the role

Memorial Hermann Rockets Sports Medicine Institute is an organization of sports medicine and performance facilities located throughout Houston, Texas. We are seeking someone who is passionate about education, enjoys working in a variety of settings, has the desire to mentor, and is excited to help our program continue to grow in new and innovative ways.

Our team of sports dietitians contribute significantly to the organization through our efforts both in and outside of the clinic. Our dietitians provide individual nutrition counseling to athletes from across the community, assist with a variety of testing services, and lead education programming for our clinics, Sports Medicine Fellows, Physical Therapy Residents, and Sports Nutrition Residency program.

Additionally, our team of dietitians currently provide sports nutrition services to Fans First Entertainment (Savannah Bananas/Banana Ball), Seattle Sounders, Houston Dynamo II, Houston Christian University, University of St. Thomas, multiple high schools, and several other organizations.

Responsibilities

• Lead detailed individual nutrition counseling sessions with clients and athletes of varying ages and abilities
• Support existing contracts with above collegiate program(s) and/or professional team(s)
• Develop and deliver education sessions for high school athletes as part of our collaboration with local schools
• Develop sport specific nutrition curriculum and activities according to the needs of that respective team or school
• Provide individual nutrition counseling
• Provide mentorship to our sports nutrition residents in addition to our dietetic interns
• Teach higher level sports nutrition lessons as part of our residency education program
• Teach and mentor other professional groups within organization (Physical Therapists & Sports Med Primary Care Physicians)
• Develop and execute nutrition presentations for athletes, parents, and other sports medicine professionals within the community
• Body composition analysis (BodPod)
• Assist with metabolic testing services
• Create educational materials including written, video, and social media
• Assist with media opportunities including television, radio, or written
• Assist with new or current research projects
• Assist with the planning and implementation of our annual Texas Sports Nutrition Symposium
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or graduate degree in Food & Nutrition or related area
• Registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) and licensed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) by time of start date
• The position requires occasional/frequent pushing and lifting 75 – 100 pounds and carrying of up to 30 pounds; prolonged standing; frequent walking, stooping and squatting
• Fine hand dexterity, eye-hand coordination, the ability to receive oral and written communication, and to communicate verbally and in writing are also necessary
• The visual ability to monitor instruments, computers and equipment, recognize alphanumeric characters, distinguish colors and observe physical characteristics are essential to this position
• Ability to drive daily

Preferred Experience Or Qualifications

• 1-3 Years of experience working within sports nutrition
• A passion for teaching both athletes and professionals
• Experience with accepting insurance for nutrition counseling
• Strong mentorship skills or a desire to mentor sports dietitians
• Someone who is adaptable and enjoys shifting from one project or population to another
• Experience with eating disorder/disordered eating cases
