Sports Club Assistant Coach - Dance Team
Under the direction of the AS/SDSU Competitive Sports Coordinator, the Assistant Coach for the Dance Team will aid with the coordination and operations of the San Diego State University Dance Team, including practice schedules, training, recruitment, auditions, competition entries, and team performance enhancement. This position requires availability for evening and weekend hours and compliance with all policies and procedures established by Associated Students/SDSU, the Sport Club Program, United Dance Association (UDA), and the United Spirit Association (USA).
Responsibilities
- Comply with all job expectations as outlined in the Associated Students/SDSU Sport Club Coaching Agreement.
- Ensure individual and program compliance with all policies and procedures of Associated Students/SDSU, Aztec Recreation, and SDSU Athletics.
- Prioritize the safety of all team members, assistant coaches, and equipment at all times.
- Attend or be represented at all meetings scheduled by San Diego State Athletics, Band, or Sports Club.
- Assist team members in achieving fundraising goals.
- Assist with the coordination of travel arrangements.
- Supervise team members and assume responsibility for their conduct at team functions.
- Work collaboratively with team officers and administrators to develop and achieve program priorities.
- Assist with assessing team members' performance level for placement in competition routines.
- Maintain the team's positive community standing.
- Assist in outreach to alumni to recruit support for the team.
- Represent the team in regional or national meetings with other coaches or organizations.
- Establish and maintain working relationships with various A.S. and University departments.
- Represent the team and Associated Students/SDSU in a professional manner at all times.
- Maintain positive and effective working relationships with all athletes and staff.
- Ensure all operations are conducted with safety as the first priority, adhering to the Injury and Illness Prevention Plan and other safety policies.
- Report accidents to supervisor and review changes required to avoid reoccurrence.
- Complete proper documentation for each accident (employee and/or non-employee) and forward to supervisor.
- Report maintenance problems and/or broken and unsafe equipment to the appropriate party immediately.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Proficient knowledge of Aztec Recreation programs, facilities, and policies.
- Knowledge of Microsoft applications and Aztec Recreation website.
- American Red Cross First Aid and CPR/AED certifications required.
- Valid California Driver's License and proof of automobile insurance are required.
- Must complete Gender Awareness, Sexual Harassment Prevention, and Workplace Violence Prevention training within 30 days of hire.
- Must complete a Defensive Driving Course.
- Attend all mandatory Aztec Recreation/Sport Club Staff meetings and trainings as directed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree preferred.
- Knowledge and/or participation in Aztec Recreation programs and facilities preferred.
- Demonstrated commitment to student success and ability to recruit, train, and evaluate collegiate student athletes.
- Strong coaching background with an emphasis on skill development and leadership.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
- Ability to handle difficult situations involving participants with patience, good judgment, and diplomacy.

Schedule
This is a part-time hourly position with flexibility and willingness to work up to 25 hours per week. Employee schedules vary according to team needs throughout the academic year.
Pay
Hourly Rate: $20.00
Working Conditions
The work environment may involve exposure to various elements, including indoor and outdoor conditions. Indoor environments may include exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and other elements. Outdoor environments may include exposure to sun, heat/cold, wind, rain, weather, dust, pollens, and other environmental risks.
Physical Demands
Physical requirements include but are not limited to: walking, walking over rough or uneven surfaces, bending, stooping, climbing, and working in confined spaces. The position may require lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying loads up to 25 pounds, as well as standing and moving for extended periods.
