Position Purpose / Important Application Information

The Sport Supervisor position is responsible for observing and monitoring sports leagues and keeping accurate league records. This position also provides routine field preparation and maintenance. Recreation staff have the primary responsibility of ensuring the safety of program participants.

  • The availability of work hours for this position will be determined by one or all of the following factors: program length, weather, and budget.
  • Hours for this position will generally be Monday through Friday from 5:45 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. and Sundays from 1:45 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Job Specific

  • Demonstrate knowledge of current guest service and business practices, using office equipment and computer software
  • Demonstrate excellent skills in guest/host relations

  • Effectively handle emergencies such as fire alarms and injuries
  • Follow established guidelines concerning facility operations, such as usage policies, emergency procedures

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and other City staff
  • Act in a leadership role, and direct and supervise a variety of staff
  • Made decisions recognizing established procedures and practices, and use resourcefulness and tact in meeting new situations and/or problems

Essential Job Functions, Duties, Responsibilities, and Tasks

  • Observe and monitor various sports leagues to ensure safety and discipline at facilities
  • Aid with crowd control
  • Effectively handle emergencies such as fire alarms and injuries
  • Provide excellent guest service to participants and spectators
  • Provide routine athletic field cleaning and maintenance, such as ball field preparation and field painting
  • Track team statistics and scores
  • Responsible for maintenance, cleaning, and inventory of recreation equipment
  • Complete accurate transactions (cash, check, credit card, gift card) and reconcile at the end of the shift
  • Safely operate vehicles and equipment
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance
  • Assist with the set-up and break-down of various equipment related to the sport being played

Position Requirements/Working Conditions/Pre-employment Requirements

  • Education, Experience, Skills, Formal Training, Licenses, and Certifications Required:
    • Must be at least 18 years of age
    • Graduation from high school or GED
    • First Aid, CPR, and AED certification within 30 days of hire
    • Valid driver’s license and safe driving record
  • Preferred: Experience supervising athletic events in a recreational or educational setting
  • Experience playing and/or coaching sports

  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States and pass a criminal background check, a reference check, and a substance screen.

Working Conditions

  • Work is constantly performed outdoors with occasional indoor activity.
  • Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including summer sun and temperatures that may exceed 100 degrees, and winter conditions that include snow and freezing temperatures.
  • Outdoor and indoor work is performed at a high-public-use, multilevel recreation facility, where loud noise and multiple events and activities occurring simultaneously may cause a distraction.
