Splunk Admin

Responsibilities

• Manage daily Splunk operation systems (approximately 30% of time).
• Perform Linux administration tasks (approximately 35% of time).
• Collaborate and liaise with other units, serving as a technical resource and subject‑matter expert (approximately 10% of time).
• Contribute to research and development projects as required (approximately 15% of time).
• Train and advise less‑skilled systems programmers and provide expert technical assistance to others (approximately 10% of time).

Requirements

• Splunk Administration: Manage a Splunk installation on a Linux cluster, verify Splunk is running properly, create new indexes, update applications, add new source types, add new servers and logs, verify license counts daily, and create dashboards (including training others). Use the Splunk Management Console and applications.
• Linux Administration: Understand and implement application file permissions, configure and maintain Linux file systems (e.g., NFS), and frequently use version control (Git, Bitbucket) and configuration‑management tools (SaltStack, Ansible).
• Technical Support: Assist Windows and Linux administrators with installing the Splunk Universal Forwarder client, verify log flow to Splunk clusters, and provide guidance on log collection for both Windows and Linux clients.
• Training: Train other administrators in advanced log‑searching techniques and dashboard creation.
• General Splunk Troubleshooting: Apply troubleshooting techniques and work directly with Splunk support as needed.
• Splunk Architecture: Access the Splunk cluster, identify design deficiencies, and implement architectural improvements when appropriate.
• Splunk Upgrades: Perform upgrades of Universal Forwarders and Splunk Enterprise versions.
