About the role
We're seeking a Fiber Splicer to join our team and help connect America. You will perform duties as a fiber splicer as part of the construction of telecommunications outside plant to ensure scope of work is within required standards.Responsibilities
- You will, with guidance, splice overhead, underground or submarine multiple conductor cables.
- You will, climb utility poles or towers, utilize truck-mounted lift-bucket or descend into underground vaults.
- You will cut sheath from installed cable to gain access to defective cable connections, as well as cut and peel sheath and insulation from newly installed cable and conductors.
- You will test (traces or phase out) each conductor to identify corresponding conductors in adjoining cables, using test lamp or bell system.
- You will read and interpret (i.e. mechanical, electrical, digital) drawings, maps, blueprints, and diagrams.
Requirements
- You will have 0-1 or more years experience as a fiber splicer with experience on outside plant or system installations while working from blueprints, specifications, and system documentation.
- You will have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- You are able to lift up to 80 lbs.
Qualifications
- Basic understanding of splicing principles or ability to learn.
- Basic experience with electrical work.
- Experience working from hand-holes and manholes.
- Must pass company drug testing.
- Must know the color code system for cable pairs.
- Ability to work in confined spaces.
- Possesses strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work with internal and external customers.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills to effectively communicate with product vendors and customers.
- Ability to work from oral or written instructions and plan work without direct supervision.
- Possesses proficient personal computer operations skills.
- Comply with all safety regulations and meet safety requirements to maintain a successful safety record.
- Assume all duties as assigned.
Additional Requirements
- Must possess, or obtain upon employment, a valid driver’s license.
- Must be at least 18 years of age to operate company equipment or to drive company vehicles.
- Must be able to pass a background check and company drug screening.
- Must be able to attend and pass all company required training as needed.
- May be required to work over-time; after hours; on weekends, for emergencies or be on-call as work is needed to ensure work is completed.
- May include working nights and holidays as needed.
- May be required to travel in state or overnight as necessary to meet business and job requirements.
- Regular and timely attendance is an essential function of this position.
