What you’ll do

- You will, with guidance, splice overhead, underground or submarine multiple conductor cables. - You will, climb utility poles or towers, utilizes truck mounted lift-bucket or descends into underground vaults. - You will cut sheath from installed cable to gain access to defective cable connections as well as cuts and peels sheath and insulation from newly installed cable and conductors. - You will Test (traces or phase out) each conductor to identify corresponding conductors in adjoining cables, using test lamp or bell system. - You will read and interpret (i.e. mechanical, electrical, digital) drawings, maps, blueprints diagrams, etc.

What you’ll need

- You will have 0-1 or more years experience as a fiber splicer with experience on outside plant or system installations while working from blueprints, specifications, and system documentation - You will have a high school diploma or equivalent - You are able to lift up to 80 lbs - Apprentice/Entry level - Basic understanding of splicing principles or ability to learn - Basic experience with electrical work - Experience working from hand-holes and manholes - Must pass company drug testing - Must know the color code system for cable pairs - Ability to work in confined spaces - Possesses strong analytical and problem solving skills - Ability to work with internal and external customers - Must have strong interpersonal communication skills to effectively communicate with product vendors and customers - Ability to work from oral or written instructions and plan work without direct supervision - Possesses proficient personal computer operations skills - Comply with all safety regulations and meet safety requirements to maintain a successful safety record - Assume all duties as assigned

Additional Requirements

- Must possess, or obtain upon employment, a valid driver’s license. - Must be at least 18 years of age to operate company equipment or to drive company vehicles - Must be able to pass a background check and company drug screening. - Must be able to attend and pass all company required training as needed. - May be required to work over-time; after hours; on weekends, for emergencies or be on-call as work is needed to ensure work is completed. - May include working nights and holidays as needed. - May be required to travel in state or overnight as necessary to meet business and job requirements. - Regular and timely attendance is an essential function of this position.

The employee will be standing, walking, climbing, balancing, crawling, crouching, lifting, holding or stooping while on shift. - The noise level in the work environment for this position is moderate. This position will be out in the field on job sites as well as in the office. - Employees performing functions of this position are regularly exposed to outside weather conditions which can include but is not limited to: extreme heat and cold temperatures; inclement weather such as rain, snow, sleet and dust as well as adverse driving conditions including wet roads, icy roads, and fog. - Employees performing these job functions are required to lift or move up to 10 pounds and frequently lift or move up to 50 pounds. - Employees in this job classification may be exposed to dust, fumes or other airborne pathogens. - Employees may be exposed to toxic or corrosive chemicals as well as moving machinery parts and pieces. - Specific vision abilities required to perform this job include but are not limited to: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus potentially near and/or far as needed.

Pay Range

The hourly wage range for the Splicer I Fiber role is $24 - $26 depending on experience.
