Spiritual Direction Coordinator
About the role
The Franciscan Renewal Center (FRC) is a nonprofit Catholic retreat center and home to Our Lady of the Angels Church, located in Paradise Valley. Founded in 1951 by the Order of Friars Minor, we seek to follow in the footsteps of Saints Francis and Clare of Assisi with our commitment to renewing lives through spiritual growth, healing and transformation, and service to others.
The Spiritual Direction Ministry provides spiritual direction for all who request it, regardless of affiliation. This part-time role (approximately 15 hours per week, typically over 3 days) involves coordinating the ministry, providing administrative support, and offering spiritual direction to assigned directees. The schedule may fluctuate to accommodate evening and weekend needs.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate, oversee, and manage the Spiritual Direction Ministry, including responding to requests for spiritual direction and confirming initial correspondence between directors and potential directees.
- Maintain monthly records of spiritual direction sessions, room fees, and director schedules for retreats.
- Submit check requests for spiritual directors offering direction on retreats.
- Coordinate ongoing development, training, and evaluations for spiritual directors, including maintaining liability insurance records.
- Communicate regularly with spiritual directors and facilitate three annual meetings for community building and professional growth.
- Promote the Spiritual Direction Ministry within the FRC community and externally, including attending staff meetings and collaborating with Spiritual Direction Rising and Diocesan staff.
- Develop and implement the Spiritual Direction Strategic Plan in coordination with FRC strategic planning.
- Maintain the spiritual direction library and resources.
- Provide spiritual direction to assigned directees, both within and outside scheduled coordinator hours.
Requirements
- Completion of a recognized Spiritual Direction Training program and 5+ years of experience as a Spiritual Director.
- Certificate in Spiritual Direction supervision or willingness to complete it within the first weeks of employment.
- M.A. in Theology, Pastoral Care, or similar (preferred).
- Strong interpersonal, relational, and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to show compassion.
- Self-directed, able to work independently with minimal supervision while collaborating effectively within the organization and with external partners.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook).
- Commitment to the mission and values of the FRC and ability to maintain Safe Environment Training protocols.
- Familiarity with Franciscan spirituality and the content of the FRC website pertaining to Spiritual Direction.
Schedule
This is a part-time, onsite role (approximately 15 hours per week, typically over 3 days). Occasional evenings and weekends are required to accommodate directee needs and ministry events.
