Spencer County Health Dept School Liaison

About the role

The incumbent serves as School Liaison for the Spencer County Health Department, responsible for providing support to the department personnel and serving as a local resource for K-12 schools within the county by working with the school nurses.

Responsibilities

• Partner to implement school wellness policies, including a comprehensive strategy to address substance use in schools.
• Partner with schools to promote whole child health, including physical, mental, and student health and wellbeing.
• Support schools in performing health screenings, such as vision, hearing, and oral health.
• Collaborate and enhance current vaccination efforts to ensure childhood vaccine requirements and seasonal vaccine needs are addressed.
• Develop and collaborate with school and community partners to help support school needs and provide evidence-based education on nutrition and physical activity.
• Support schools in their communicable disease response plans to ensure continuity of planning throughout the jurisdiction.
• Identify both external and internal resources available to support LHD's and schools to continue and sustain best practices and initiatives as identified through this work.

• Ability to communicate orally in public and in writing.
• Personable and able to work as a team member.
• Able to provide timely feedback and documentation of activity to LHD, IDOH, and School Corporation.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of restricted information and follow instructions.
• Ability to work with children and adults.
• Ability to work in groups and with individuals of varied backgrounds.
• Ability to operate a variety of office machines including copier, fax, telephone, computers/printer, etc.
• Have reliable insured transportation.

Pay

$24.00 per hour (based on 585 hours per year).

Schedule

Part-time, non-medical, contractual position.
