Job Summary

The Speech Therapist screens students for placement in the Speech Therapy Program, works with students who have speech needs, sets goals and objectives for each student, confers with parents and teachers when necessary and writes an annual report for each school and the state.

Description of basic functions and responsibilities

The Speech Therapist screens referrals for placement in the Speech Therapy Program. Assess and evaluate the student’s speech and language abilities and deficits. Develop a schedule for student placement in the program compatible with the teachers’ schedules. Inform and confer with teachers and parents of the student’s placement, type of speech and/or language deficit, and ways to help improve the speech and/or language deficit, outside of therapy, if possible. Work with the students in the appropriate areas of speech and language as determined in the individual goals and objectives for each student. Prepare an annual end-of-the-year report for each school consisting of an individual report on each student and a summarized statistical report. Contact feeder intermediate school districts for students attending school within the district and the next school year who may require continued speech therapy.

Other duties and responsibilities

  • Attend appropriate meetings and functions as a member of the Special Education staff.
  • Participate in conferences and workshops as requested.
  • Keep in contact with current research in the areas of speech pathology and audiology.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Special Services Administrator.

Minimum qualifications

  • Restricted Credential in Speech Pathology and Audiology (SC4 Clinical or Rehabilitative Services Credential)

  • Newly hired unit members are eligible for year for year placement on the salary schedule with relevant verified contractual experience
