About the Role

The Speech Pathology Deputy Manager & Language Service Lead provides operational support to the Speech Pathology Manager. Under the direction of the Speech Pathology & Language Services Manager, they will:

  • Support leadership, management, and professional practice of the Speech Pathology and Language Services to ensure high-quality service delivery in line with Alfred Health’s strategic and operational plans and Speech Pathology professional practice standards.
  • Oversee specific allocated Speech Pathology operational responsibilities and/or leadership portfolios.
  • Lead an Allied Health clinical program portfolio.
  • Ensure expert clinical intervention is provided in accordance with best practice professional standards and other relevant external standards.
  • Advise on the strategic direction of Speech Pathology and Language Services and their contribution to the Allied Health service within clinical programs, in consultation with the Speech Pathology Manager.
  • Collaborate with operational managers to support broader Allied Health goals.
  • Perform other duties as delegated by the Discipline Manager, Chief Allied Health Officer, Director of Allied Health, or Deputy Director of Allied Health.

Requirements

  • Qualifications providing eligibility for full membership of Speech Pathology Australia (SPA).
  • Post-graduate clinical qualifications or health services management/administration/business management at Masters level or higher.
  • Experience in the delivery and/or management of a Speech Pathology service in a hospital environment.
  • Demonstrated understanding of contemporary issues and directions of Allied Health services.
  • Demonstrated understanding of organisational change concepts and practices, with the ability to lead and manage a team through change.
  • High-level communication, negotiation, problem-solving, conflict management, and interpersonal skills, with an ability to develop sound working relationships and work effectively within a team.
  • Commitment to ongoing staff professional development, service review, quality improvement, and research initiatives.
  • Extensive experience in the supervision and mentoring of Speech Pathologists, students, and support staff.
  • High-level planning and organisational skills, with an ability to monitor performance, lead and motivate staff, and uphold department standards.
  • Motivated, energetic, enthusiastic, and committed to excellence.
  • Capacity to motivate staff and contribute to a positive organisational culture.
  • Demonstrated financial management skills.
  • Working knowledge, experience, and competency with information management systems.
