Evaluation and Diagnosis
- Conducts thorough speech, language, and communication assessments in accordance with NJ Administrative Code
- Collects and interprets relevant data from teachers, parents, and standardized tools
- Prepares comprehensive evaluation reports with clear diagnoses and educationally relevant recommendations
- Participates in eligibility determinations and re-evaluation processes as a Child Study Team member
IEP Development
- Develops and contributes to Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students requiring speech-language services
- Specifies measurable annual goals, short-term objectives, service delivery methods, and accommodations
- Attends and actively participates in IEP meetings, providing expertise on communication-related needs
Treatment Services
- Provides direct therapy services to students, both individually and in groups, in accordance with their IEPs
- Selects and implements evidence-based strategies and materials to address identified needs
- Maintains and documents student progress toward IEP goals and communicates progress with relevant stakeholders
Consultation and Collaboration
- Consults with teachers, parents, and administrators to support classroom-based language and communication strategies
- Provides guidance to staff regarding modifications and supports for students with speech and language impairments
- Collaborates with external professionals and community agencies when appropriate
Compliance and Documentation
- Maintains accurate and timely records of evaluations, therapy sessions, progress reports, and communications
- Ensures all services are provided in accordance with state and federal special education laws and district policies
- Secures parental consent when necessary and respects confidentiality of student records
Professionalism and Growth
- Maintains active licensure and certification through ongoing professional development
- Keeps current with research, trends, and changes in the field of speech-language pathology and education
- Participates in relevant in-service training, workshops, and professional learning communities
Environment and Preparation
- Maintains a therapy environment conducive to effective service delivery, ensuring privacy and safety
- Prepares and organizes materials and schedules for maximum efficiency and student benefit
