About the role

This recruitment is to establish a six (6) month eligibility list which will be used to fill current and future vacancies.

Responsibilities

  • Provides speech therapy services to students according to Individual Education Program (IEP) goals and the intervention plan developed for the student.
  • Affords assistance to the educational staff as part of case management through consultation, training, and direct individual and group activities.
  • Assists in the assessment of students' communication skills.
  • Aids in the development of IEP goals and objectives.
  • Prepares materials and/or equipment for use in the classroom and therapy activities (e.g., picture cards, worksheets, and audio equipment).
  • Adapts or modifies instructional materials as determined by student needs for teachers use in the classroom.
  • Documents student's progress towards meeting IEP goals and objectives by preparing charts, records, graphs or other documentation.
  • Checks and maintains augmentative communication devices and equipment.
  • Performs a variety of clerical tasks such as keeping records, files and reports related to assigned students.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or its recognized equivalent.
  • Certificate of Completion of a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant's program from an institution of higher learning accredited by a regional accreditation association.
  • One (1) year experience working with individuals with speech and language disabilities in a structured environment.
  • Possession of valid registration as a Speech/Language Pathology Assistant with the California Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Board.
  • A valid California driver's license and the availability of private transportation or the ability to provide transportation between job sites may be required.

  • Knowledge of Speech Pathology equipment, materials and procedures.
  • Knowledge of normal speech and language development in children.
  • Knowledge of language disorders and rehabilitation.
  • Knowledge of articulation disorders and rehabilitation.
  • Knowledge of English usage, punctuation, spelling and grammar.
  • Knowledge of record keeping and records management.
  • Knowledge of practical learning patterns and behavior.
  • Knowledge of elementary concepts of child development and behavior.
  • Knowledge of basic characteristics of human behavior.
  • Knowledge of basic communication skills.
  • Knowledge of basic math skills.

Pay

New employees start on the first step (Step A) of their classification's salary range. Speech Language Pathology Assistant begins on Range 42 step A: $29.65 per hour.
