Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP)

About the Role

Neulife Rehabilitation provides post-acute rehabilitation and residential services for individuals with Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), Acquired Brain Injury (ABI), Spinal Cord Injuries, and Neurological Disorders.

This position involves patient assessment, care planning, direct treatment, and consultation for a general rehabilitation caseload. The role includes participation in the clinical team process, teaching and training caregiver staff, and involvement in clinical program development. Supervision of licensed therapists, assistants, technicians, aides, and students may also be required. In programs with two or more speech-language pathologists, additional administrative duties may be assigned.

Responsibilities

• Screens and evaluates patients, developing plans of care.
• Performs additional administrative duties such as assigning and overseeing patient care activities, medical record oversight, assuring execution of physician orders, and ordering supplies.
• Provides direct patient treatment under a physician’s order, in accordance with an established plan of care (one-on-one, supervised, and group settings).
• Contributes to the team meeting and decision-making process as defined by the program.
• Consults with and trains patients and caregivers.
• Monitors efficiencies in collaboration with supervisor.
• Documents activities according to the company’s clinical documentation system on a timely basis.
• Demonstrates knowledge and application of reimbursement regulations.
• Communicates effectively with patients, families, caregivers, team members, customers, and supervisor.
• Promotes positive customer relations and provides appropriate consultation to the facility.
• May participate in clinical program development, staff training, orientation, and the interview process for new staff.
• May participate in census building and marketing activities.
• Demonstrates continuous learning to remain current in the field.
• Participates in quality improvement activities.
• Ensures service and operational excellence in all assigned activities to meet or exceed expectations.
• Exhibits courtesy, compassion, and respect to all stakeholders.

Requirements

• Master of Science Degree in Speech-Language Pathology and professional licensure where required by state law; two years of clinical experience preferred.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to utilize independent and effective clinical judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Strong time management skills.
• Ability to function effectively in multi-faceted systems and interact with all levels of staff and customers.
• Strong organizational and analytical skills.

Physical Requirements

• Work is performed in the Rehabilitation Department, patient care units, and in the community (e.g., community integration outings, appointments).
• Occasional exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, anti-neoplastic pharmaceuticals, and other substances used in patient care.
• Occasional physical effort with medium to heavy objects; transferring patients weighing between 100 to 250 lbs. may be required.
• Standing and walking for significant amounts of time.
• Good hearing and verbal skills for directing staff, customer relations, and marketing activities.
• Manual dexterity for documentation, equipment manipulation, and direct patient care.
• Good visual skills for patient assessment, documentation, and report analysis.
