About the role
The Speech Language Pathologist at Riverside Health System works with patients who have acute and chronic health conditions to improve their quality of life and reach their functional goals. They provide evaluations, diagnoses, and treatments for speech, language, communication, and swallowing disorders. Additionally, they offer aural rehabilitation for those who are deaf or hard of hearing, and assistive communication systems for individuals with severe expressive or language comprehension disorders like Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or progressive neurological conditions.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate and diagnose speech, language, communication, and swallowing disorders.
- Provide aural rehabilitation services for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing.
- Implement augmentative and alternative communication systems for patients with severe expressive or language comprehension disorders.
- Train and educate family members and other professionals on managing the patient's condition.
- Develop and modify treatment plans to ensure therapeutic benefits and meet discharge criteria.
- Record patient progress and adjust the treatment plan accordingly.
- Maintain positive relationships with a multidisciplinary team to support comprehensive patient care.
- Participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings to discuss patient cases and develop treatment strategies.
- Support and train other team members, volunteers, and students in providing effective care.
Requirements
- Masters Degree in Speech Language Pathology (Required)
- Doctoral Degree in Speech Language Pathology (Preferred)
- One year of experience in Speech Language Pathology (Preferred)
- Current SLP certification from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA)
- Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP) certification as a Speech Language Pathologist
- Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) from ASHA (Preferred)
- CPR/BLS certification from the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) within 30 days of hire (Required)
