Speech Language Pathologist PRN

About the Role

Responsible for administration and direct application of Speech/Language Pathology treatment modalities as prescribed by a referring physician. Evaluates, plans, directs, and treats all patients referred to speech/language pathology to restore function and prevent disability following disease or injury. Assists patients in achieving maximum performance and function in society while adapting to the constraints of their disability.

Participates in performance improvement activities, ensures personal competency, and contributes to departmental budget considerations for optimal patient care and service. Assists in scheduling patient visits for evaluations and treatments, performs administrative duties as delegated, and engages in infection control, safety, and educational programs.

Responsibilities

• Perform patient evaluations upon physician referral to determine problems and goals.
• Prepare reports related to Speech/Language Pathology activities, including performance improvement.
• Document all treatments, assessments, and evaluations in the medical record for inpatient and outpatient populations.
• Formulate and implement effective treatment programs in consultation with physicians.
• Treat patients in accordance with Speech/Language Pathology standards of care and practice.
• Address psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and spiritual needs of patients and their families.
• Confer with individuals closely associated with the patient to keep them informed of needs, treatment modifications, and progress.
• Perform examinations such as swallowing evaluations and communicate results to the healthcare team.
• Coordinate and direct patient care to ensure compliance with facility policies.
• Maintain records pertinent to personnel and department operations.
• Demonstrate flexibility, organization, and professionalism under stressful situations.
• Maintain positive working relationships within the department and with other departments.
• Provide unbiased care to patients of all ages, races, genders, and disabilities.
• Collaborate with other departments for patient care and performance improvement activities.
• Communicate clearly with physicians, staff, and the administrative team.
• Participate in departmental education, orientation, and in-service training.

Requirements

Qualifications

• Master’s degree from an accredited college or school of Speech Language Pathology.
• Licensed by the State of Kentucky as a Speech Language Pathologist.

Experience

• Experience working with the geriatric population preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and public relations skills.
• Solid analytical, creative, and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to assist and coordinate with others.
• Basic proficiency in computer applications, including word processing, email, and Excel.

Physical Activities

• Frequent repetitive motions using wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
• Ability to communicate clearly and convey detailed instructions or ideas accurately.
• Average visual acuity for preparing or inspecting documents and operating machinery.
• Average hearing ability to receive ordinary information and engage in conversations.
• Frequently stand, use hands, reach with hands, and climb or balance.
• Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Mental Activities

• Reasoning Ability: Ability to handle variables with limited standardization and interpret instructions.
• Mathematics Ability: Perform basic math, compute ratios, and use decimals and percentages.
• Language Ability: Prepare reports, letters, and communications with proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling. Communicate clearly with appropriate emphasis and variation in tense.
