Responsible for the planning and implementation of Speech-Language Pathology evaluation and treatment services. Evaluates communication disorders and administers therapy treatments for resident/patient problems associated with hearing, speech, language, cognitive, and swallowing disorders. Maintains records, monitors progress, and counsels residents or patients and their family members.
Responsibilities
- Administer and directly apply Speech/Language Pathology treatment modalities as prescribed by a referring physician.
- Evaluate, assess, plan, direct, and treat all residents or patients referred for speech/language pathology services.
- Interpret test results in accordance with standard speech/language procedures.
- Re-evaluate patients as appropriate and implement new treatment plans and goals as necessary.
- Implement treatments to restore function and prevent disability following disease or injury.
- Participate in multidisciplinary consultations.
- Participate in performance improvement activities within the department and in CQI activities.
- Complete continuing education and in-service programs to meet regulatory and job requirements.
- Provide information related to departmental budget considerations for optimum patient care and service.
- Assist in scheduling patient or resident visits for further evaluation and treatment.
- Ensure all documentation and charts are complete.
- Participate in infection control, safety, and educational programs, both in the department and organization-wide.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Graduate of a college/university accredited by the American Speech-Hearing Association with a degree in Speech-Language Pathology.
- Excellent communication skills to interact with patients, medical, and house staff.
- Excellent assessment skills to make accurate prognoses of patient potential and guide individuals to achieve that potential.
- Proficient with MS Office and Epic/EMR software.
Qualifications
- Must hold or be eligible for the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology from the American Speech, Language, and Hearing Association (ASHA).
- Preferred: Current NYS license as a Speech-Language Pathologist (or temporary permit).
