Responsibilities
- Confirm and interpret physician referrals
- Perform patient assessments
- Plan and implement individualized treatment programs taking into account the patient's developmental and/or chronological age and medical diagnoses in accordance with regulations governing the principles and practice of Speech-Language Pathology
- Provide patient care based upon physician referral and age-appropriate assessment when planning/implementing treatment programs designed to achieve goals set with the patient and/or family member
- Coordinate patient care and clinical activities through written and/or verbal communication with patients, families, therapists, Clinical Team Leaders, managers, physicians, and other members of the health care team
- Document in the patient's medical record and complete other patient care-related forms in compliance with regulatory agencies and department/hospital policies and procedures
- Collaborate with other clinical staff, support staff, volunteers and students to achieve efficient clinical activity and quality patient care
- Participate in other patient care and departmental/professional activities as requested/assigned including but not limited to presenting/attending in-services, performance improvement, program development/evaluation, new employee orientation, committee membership, peer review and attending staff meetings
- May supervise Speech Language Pathology students as provided by State of Virginia licensure/practice standards and Federal regulations
- Orient new employees and may provide guidance to volunteers, other students, support, or contract staff
- May provide problem-solving, consultation, advising or interpretation services to others
- Suggest cost containment initiatives in immediate work unit/department
- May be required to work at other Carilion facilities to meet staffing needs, in which case will provide own transportation
- For Home Care Departments: work is performed at patient's home
- Depending on site, may require ability to conduct and interpret video fluoroscopies including dictation and sign-off procedures
- Home care practitioners must provide own transportation and travel daily between patient homes
- Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and assess data reflective of the patient's status
- Interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age specific needs and provide care according to departmental policies and procedures
Requirements
- Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program
- Certificate of Clinical Competency from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association or eligible to complete clinical fellowship year (CFY)
- Licensed to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia
- AHA BLS-certified (from a Carilion approved program) within six months of employment
- Effective interpersonal, communication, customer service and teamwork skills required
Qualifications
- Experience in site specific level of care preferred but not required
- For Home Health positions: one year of clinical experience required
- Feeding Experience Preferred
Pay
$36.87 - $55.31. Employee pay is based on a variety of factors, including qualifications, credentials, education, and prior work experience. The compensation range does not include benefits or pension plan.
