Speech & Language Pathologist (Part-time)

About the Role

Identifies, tests, diagnoses, and manages speech, language, communication, and swallowing disorders. Provides comprehensive care to infants, children, adolescents, young adults, and adults in inpatient and outpatient settings at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a tertiary care hospital focused on catastrophic childhood illnesses including cancer, sickle cell disease, and other hematologic disorders, HIV and other infectious diseases, endocrinology, and neurological disorders. Begins to contribute to clinical programming, educational, and research initiatives as directed.

This position involves direct patient care three days weekly, with opportunities for participation in clinical research.

Responsibilities

• Conduct assessments; study, identify, measure, and treat disorders as part of the Rehabilitation Services department.
• Under supervision, provide preventive, habilitative, rehabilitative, adaptive, and palliative care, delivering suitable interventions to both inpatients and outpatients.
• Provide evidence-based treatment to improve outcomes and quality of life for patients.
• Support provision of devices and aids related to rehabilitation area, and operate testing equipment as applicable.
• Complete and review appropriate documents and records; communicate with cross-functional stakeholders (e.g., clinical and research staff).
• Counsel patients and caregivers regarding diagnosis, prognosis, and plan of care.
• Conduct clinical and instrumental swallowing assessments, score and interpret results, and develop appropriate recommendations with supervision.
• Assess candidacy for and prescribe augmentative communication modalities, endotracheal prostheses, jaw range of motion devices, and other aids with supervision.
• Perform other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the department and institution.
• Maintain regular and predictable attendance.

Requirements

• Master's degree from an accredited program in speech-language pathology required.
• 1+ years of experience preferred.
• 1+ years of relevant pediatric/oncology experience, including internship experience, preferred but not required.

Qualifications

• Licensure as a Speech Pathologist by the State of Tennessee Board of Examiners for Speech Pathology and Audiology required.
• Member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association required.
• Certification as a Speech Pathologist by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association required.

Pay

A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $65,520 - $114,400 per year for this part-time role.
