About the role
The ECE Speech Language Pathologist is responsible for assessing and providing intervention to ensure student success and promote an exemplary educational program which fosters achievement for all students. They also develop and promote good relations among community and school clientele.
Responsibilities
- Plan and develop intervention programs and/or services to students.
- Provide intervention strategies to support the teaching process and to assist speech and language learning.
- Works effectively with others to integrate speech-language goals within the curriculum.
- Provides culturally responsive interventions that complement the students cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
- Maintains progress records on each student and completes paperwork in a timely manner according to legal requirements and district expectations.
- Evaluates program effectiveness/success.
- Delivers services consistent with the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and Colorado Department of Education (CDE) ethical principles and professional standards of practice.
- Absorb oral motor, feeding and eating issues.
- Assist in the development and implementation of schedules and work systems.
- Support preschool classroom, including ability to manage classroom environment and modify/adapt classroom activities to ensure successful communication for identified students.
- Encourage pragmatic language development and peer interactions.
- Develop comprehensive IEP’s, progress monitor, including ESY eligibility.
- Conducts valid speech-language assessments according to professional standards.
- Conducts nonbiased culturally responsive assessments.
- Provides current information and programs to decrease the occurrence of speech and language problems.
- Communicates with parents regarding child’s needs, progress, programming, and strategies.
- Schedules student services to maximize the use of time and resources and manages caseload.
- Works effectively with parents to assist with generalization of skills across settings.
- Develops positive rapport and ability to work collaboratively with students, colleagues, outside agencies, and parent community.
- Willing to support and actively participate in a professional learning community.
- Provides training and monitoring of specific programming based on individual student needs.
- Supports transitions to elementary school.
- Maintains professional growth in areas of expertise to effectively serve students.
Qualifications
- Master's degree
- Student teaching/practicum/internship experience that meets or exceeds Colorado's requirements
- Holds a valid Colorado School Speech-Language Pathologist Endorsement/License.
