Speech Language Pathologist

About the Role

As a Speech Language Pathologist, you will have the opportunity to change lives through education by providing speech and language therapy services and specialized support that helps students improve their communication and learning skills.

Responsibilities

• Identify students needing specialized speech or language services, instruction, curriculum, activities, and classes, and support them with solutions that enable them to thrive in a learning environment and achieve academic goals.
• Facilitate individual and/or group therapy activities using curriculum-based materials and content, and provide progress reports and documentation as needed.
• Supervise support staff as needed and consult with fellow educators regarding accommodations, needs, instructional strategies, necessary equipment, and support.
• Provide augmentative and alternative communication systems for individuals with severe expressive and/or language disorders.
• Create a classroom and learning environment that cultivates learning, engages the interests of the students, and allows them to perform at their very best.
• Utilize direct instruction techniques to guide students through activities designed to promote social, physical, and intellectual growth needed for primary school success.
• Explore individual needs and give side-by-side support to discover how each student best learns, developing personalized solutions to match their learning style and abilities.
• Master the proven curriculum, implement the school’s philosophy of education, and guide students toward the achievement of curriculum goals.
• Encourage students to uphold school values and model mature behavior and good character in the classroom, on campus, and throughout their lives.
• Respond to all internal and external customers in a prompt, efficient, friendly, and patient manner.
• Maintain courteous relationships with students, staff, parents, and the community, treating all with respect.
• Be active in the role when lifting, sitting, standing, moving throughout the campus, and traveling to other campuses as required.
• Participate in events outside of normal hours.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Master’s or higher degree in the field.
• State-specific licensure:
  • TX: TDLR State License.
• The incumbent in this position will be required to pass a criminal history background check.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience as a Speech Language Pathologist.
• ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence – SLP.

Schedule

This role follows a hybrid model with a four-day on-campus and one-day remote work schedule. Remote days must be approved by the principal in advance, are limited to non-student facing work such as report writing and compliance documentation, and must not interfere with testing, IEP meetings, or urgent student needs.

• Duties are performed typically in school and/or office settings throughout the division.
• Frequent walking, standing, stooping, lifting up to approximately 25 pounds, and occasional lifting of equipment/materials weighing up to approximately 40 pounds may be required.
• Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time.
• Ability to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids.
• Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone.
• Ability to speak in audible tones so others may understand clearly in person and on the telephone.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
