Essential Job Functions
- Affords assistance in identifying students needing evaluation and/or services.
- Observes and evaluates students after referral by the school’s child study or IEP committee.
- Fulfills all LEA and VDOE guidelines regarding special education timelines for completion and submission of written evaluations.
- Collaborates with school staff and parents to assist in determining appropriate and required special education or related service recommendations of speech language therapy.
- Provides services in accordance with the IEPs of those students who are identified as Speech and Language Impaired or those students receiving speech as a related service.
- Maintains ongoing and up to date documentation of all service provided and documentation required for IEP documentation and Medicaid billing.
- Participates in necessary meetings (IEP, Eligibility, Triennial, etc).
- Reports progress as determined by the student’s IEP.
- Serves as a member of the Child Study Committee when appropriate.
- Manages caseload in accordance with county procedures.
- Recommends appropriate service delivery options.
- Complies with state and federal regulations.
- Alerts appropriate personnel of any IEP modifications and/or accommodations.
- Serves as a consultant to parents, teachers, administrators and other personnel.
- Complies with CCPS special education policy and procedures.
- Attends required in-services and/or staff development.
- Pursues professional development.
- Maintains appropriate licensure.
- Demonstrates commitment to improving professional competence.
- Supervises graduate students, Clinical Fellows or Speech Language Pathology Assistants (SLPA) according to department and ASHA/BASLP guidelines.
- Affords assessment of student learning on an ongoing basis and alters instruction to meet group/individual needs.
- Utilizes the curriculum of the district to plan daily instructional activities.
Qualifications
- Working knowledge of the ethics, concepts, principles, methodologies and best practice of speech language services in the educational setting.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement Individualized Education Plans.
- Working knowledge and understanding of special education policies and procedures at the county, state and federal levels.
- Demonstrated ability in decision making, problem analysis, conflict resolution, interpersonal relationships and planning.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with students, teachers, parents, administrators and other school personnel.
