Speech Language Pathologist (2026-2027 SY - General Pool)

10-month, 195-day licensed teacher position reporting to Lead Administrators.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree
• Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology required
• Valid license from the Virginia Board of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology or eligibility to obtain one
• ASHA Certification or Candidate for ASHA Certification
• CFY Supervision is available
• Valid Virginia Department of Education Teaching License is NOT required

Responsibilities

• Identify students with communication disabilities through:
  • Pre-referral consultations and participation in Multi-Tiered System of Supports initiatives
  • Comprehensive speech-language assessments to determine the existence of a disability
  • Integration of data from a variety of assessment techniques and sources
  • Determination of the effects of the student’s impairment in regard to accessing the general curriculum
  • Preparation of evaluation reports and presentation of assessment results at team meetings
• Develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) by:
  • Creating present levels of performance, IEP goals and objectives, and accommodations related to the students’ speech-language impairment
  • Collaborating with team members regarding standards-based goals which impact access to the general curriculum
• Provide intervention appropriate to the age and learning needs of individual students, including:
  • Planning evidence-based interventions for individuals and groups
  • Designing, selecting, and/or adapting curricula/therapy content
  • Demonstrating knowledge and understanding of the Virginia Standards of Learning
  • Collecting and interpreting data to monitor progress
  • Completing progress reports
  • Employing a continuum of service delivery models in the least restrictive environment
  • Instructing eligible students/teachers in the use of appropriate communication technologies (e.g., FM systems, hearing aids, augmentative communication tools/devices)
• Maintain records of the speech-language program and prepare periodic reports, including:
  • Keeping data for program planning and decision-making (e.g., student rosters, schedules)
  • Submitting reports which meet federal, state, and local requirements
  • Maintaining current files and/or records (e.g., progress reports, attendance, activity logs) on each student on the caseload
  • Safeguarding the confidentiality of student records
  • Completing records for third-party reimbursement accurately and in a timely manner
• Adhere to established rules, regulations, laws, and appropriate ethical standards, including:
  • Demonstrating knowledge of federal, state, and local rules, regulations, and laws
  • Completing procedural documentation appropriately
  • Abiding by ASHA’s professional code of ethics
• Engage in ongoing consultation/collaboration with families and school personnel, including:
  • Collaborating with a variety of groups and/or individuals (e.g., parents, teachers, physicians, team members) to communicate information, resolve issues, and provide services in compliance with established guidelines
  • Consulting with teachers, parents, other personnel, and/or outside professionals to provide requested information, develop plans for services, make recommendations, and/or coordinate speech/language therapy services with those of other disciplines
• Engage in continuing education and professional growth activities related to speech-language hearing and education, including:
  • Participating in professional meetings, conferences, and workshops
  • Reviewing speech/language literature and applying new information during therapy and instructional procedures
  • Applying and sharing knowledge gained from continuing education activities
  • Staying abreast of educational issues
  • Supporting the use of evidence-based practices
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education or other designated supervisor

Pay

Step placement and salary determined by the ACPS Teachers and Other Licensed Staff Salary Scale. This position qualifies for an additional yearly stipend.
