About the role

The Accelerated Schools, located just south of Downtown Los Angeles, serves a vibrant community of over 1,700 TK–12 students. We are dedicated to preparing them to excel in college, career, and life through innovative, equitable, and compassionate practices.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support Speech Language Pathologist Assistants in screening, evaluating, and providing therapy, speech correction, and specialized training to students with a variety of communication disabilities.
  • Oversee the delivery of individual and group treatment and instruction for students with diverse speech needs, while ensuring the establishment and maintenance of treatment goals and therapeutic objectives designed to improve student communication skills and enhance overall learning.
  • Cook up and adjust therapy in response to student issues, needs and progress; administer, score and interpret diagnostic tests to identify language, speech, hearing and other communication needs of students; place students in appropriate treatment and therapeutic programs; develop and implement remedial strategies, goals, objectives, schedules and techniques; present assessment results during IEP team meetings.
  • Coordinate the speech therapy program with other school programs and services; report educational and therapeutic progress of students to school personnel.
  • Maintain current knowledge of program rules, regulations, requirements, and best practices related to speech and language services and special education.
  • Assist teachers in screening referrals for speech therapy; observe and assess student conditions, diagnose speech problems and recommend student placement in appropriate school, special education and other programs; determine eligibility for services and therapy; follow up to assure students receive appropriate services.
  • Review and analyze student assessments and records; identify, diagnose and formulate educational, treatment and development plans and strategies for various communication disabilities and other student issues.
  • Conduct assessments, determine eligibility, and develop recommendations in compliance with applicable State Education Code, IDEA, and other federal and state laws and regulations.

  • Prepare and maintain a variety of records, reports and files related to students, disabilities, assessments, therapy, progress and assigned activities.
  • Learn, implement, and effectively utilize adaptive technology, augmentative communication devices, and electronic communication aids to support students with complex communication needs.

Qualifications

  • Valid California Speech License
  • Valid California Speech-Language Specialist credential or Clinical/Rehabilitative Services Credential (with Language, Speech and Hearing added authorization)
  • Spanish Language Fluency (preferred)
