Speech and Language Pathologist

Under the IEA/NEA Agreement, this position reports to the Program Administrator.

About the Role

The Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) will provide speech and language services to students with developmental and/or physical disabilities in classroom settings across SASED programs. As part of the educational team, the SLP will help design communication systems enabling students to express their needs, desires, and thoughts. The role involves collaborating with classroom teams to support students' educational needs (IEP goals) across the curriculum.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology/Communication Disorders
• Illinois Professional Educator License endorsed for speech-language pathology (teaching or non-teaching)
• ASHA Certification CCC-SLP (or working toward CCC-SLP through CF Process)
• License or Temporary License as a Speech Language Pathologist from the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation
• Valid Illinois driver’s license and access to a reliable, insured vehicle for travel between service locations
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Responsibilities

• Planning and Preparation
  • Organizes a program addressing local school speech-language goals
  • Collaborates with school personnel to establish and accomplish goals and objectives
  • Coordinates speech-language services with other student services
  • Maintains records and prepares reports for program planning and decision-making
  • Develops appropriate IEPs based on students’ strengths and needs
  • Selects and implements evidence-based practices supporting program goals
• Classroom Environment
  • Establishes and maintains orderly behavior on an individual or group basis
  • Arranges therapy environment for optimal learning conditions
  • Manages facilities, materials, equipment, and assistive technology
  • Takes precautions to protect students, equipment, and materials
• Instruction
  • Assesses students’ communication skills to identify disorders, determine eligibility, and develop treatment recommendations
  • Conducts screenings and observations to determine need for interventions or evaluations
  • Provides therapy to minimize adverse effects of speech and language disorders on student success
  • Implements research-based interventions as part of the MTSS process
  • Adapts therapeutic approaches based on data gathered during therapy
• Professional Responsibilities
