Responsibilities

  • Provide support services to elementary school students.
  • Coordinates or serves as a member of a diagnostic team and educational planning and placement committee.
  • Serves as a resource to school staff members in the development of a balanced program for oral communication and speech improvement.
  • Collaborates with classroom teachers and other school staff members to implement therapy suggestions for students' daily activities.
  • Affords assistance and guidance to teachers in observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified speech and language impairments.
  • Performs casework services with parents as an integral part of assisting students, increasing their understanding and participation in resolving their child's needs and informing them of appropriate resources available.
  • Writes and implements Individual Education Plans and demonstrates familiarity with Response to Intervention.
  • Carries out home visits for the purpose of gathering information on a student's background and needed interventions.
  • Maintains accurate and timely records for the purpose of monitoring student progress.
  • Affords assessments of student progress towards targets and standards for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents, and administration throughout the learning process.
  • Communicates and collaborates with instructional staff, school personnel, parents, and a variety of community resources for the purpose of improving the overall quality of student outcomes.
  • Understands various formal and informal assessment strategies and utilizes them to support the continuous development of students.

Qualifications

  • Current and valid Illinois Professional Educator License.
  • Master's degree required from a program accredited by the American Speech-Language Association.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
