SmartStart Education is seeking a Special Education Teacher's Aide to work with small groups of elementary, middle, and/or high school students, supporting their academic and social-emotional development. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about working with diverse student populations and committed to helping every learner succeed.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Special Education teachers to support each student's specific needs.
  • Provide direct support to students in various educational settings, including classrooms, resource rooms, and other learning environments.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of instructional materials and activities designed to enhance academic, social, and emotional growth.
  • Monitor student progress and behavior, documenting observations and reporting findings to the supervising teacher.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes the social and emotional development of students.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information and adhere to privacy laws and school policies.
  • Assist with the organization and management of classroom materials and resources.
  • Collaborate with other school staff, such as therapists, counselors, and administrators, to support student development.
  • Attend training sessions, workshops, and meetings as required to enhance professional skills and knowledge.
  • Other duties as assigned by the administration.

Requirements

  • Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent from an accredited institution in any field is mandatory. Please note that applications with anticipated graduation dates will not be considered.
  • Demonstrated experience of at least 6 months in teaching, tutoring, coaching or advising youth, either within a school environment or another learning and development setting.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the unique challenges faced by urban students, schools, and communities, encompassing racial disparity, socio-economic disparity, and cultural disparity.
  • Display of genuine passion and unwavering commitment towards fostering the success of students.
  • Exemplary punctuality, ensuring timely attendance and adherence to established schedules.
  • Proficiency in communication skills, enabling effective and articulate interaction with students, colleagues, and interested parties.
  • Ability to comfortably commute to the designated location.
  • Ability to comfortably navigate a school environment, including walking through hallways, classrooms, and stairways throughout the workday.

Pay

$17.49 hourly to $19.43 hourly

Schedule

  • Start Date: September 10, 2026
  • End Date: June 25, 2027
  • Monday – Friday, either 7:30am – 2:15pm or 8am – 2:30pm (based on school site)
