SpEd Speech Aide Interpreter

Primary Purpose

Assist the speech pathologist with the instruction of students with limited English proficiency.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• Para Pro Exam or PAC test (No Child Left Behind)/48 College Hours
• Bilingual Test

Special Knowledge/Skills

• Demonstrate ability to read and write Spanish or Vietnamese as required by the district language proficiency exam
• Possess the ability to work with small children

Major Responsibilities and Duties

• Assist with the preparation of instructional materials related to the speech I.E.P. for students
• Assist with the instructional program by providing guidance and direction to students for drill and practice sessions and reviews in a small group setting
• Assist limited English speaking parents by providing translation services during A.R.D. meetings and/or personal meetings
• Perform other duties as assigned by the principal

Working Conditions

Mental Demands: Ability to communicate effectively (verbal); maintain emotional control under stress; interpret policy, procedures, and data; coordinate district functions.

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Frequent standing, stooping, bending, and kneeling, pushing, and pulling; regular heavy lifting of students, equipment, and materials. Biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases.
