As a SPED Teacher's Aide, you will assist a SPED classroom teacher in supervising and managing children, allowing the teacher to focus more on the educational needs of students.
Responsibilities
- Assist in implementing the daily program under the direction of the SPED teacher.
- Help plan and prepare the learning environment, set up interest centers, and prepare materials and supplies for daily student activities.
- Work individually or in small groups with students to reinforce classroom instruction, assist with reading groups, or help answer questions.
- Supervise outside playground activities.
- Assist with general housekeeping tasks.
- Perform clerical tasks and assist the SPED teacher in other appropriate ways.
- Treat all children with dignity and respect.
- Attend staff meetings, training programs, and conferences, including in-service training as required by the district.
- Operate and care for instructional equipment used in the classroom.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or immediate supervisor.
Student Management
- Assist with supervision of students outside the classroom, such as during field trips, play periods, lunchroom activities, and dismissal.
- Supervise the classroom when the SPED teacher is absent.
School/Community Relations
- Maintain confidentiality about children, their families, and other employees outside the school.
- Handle sensitive and confidential information, documents, and communications with discretion.
- Cooperate and share professionally with other staff members.

Requirements
- High School degree, GED, or equivalent experience.
- Ability to speak, read, and write English fluently.
- Successful results of criminal and employment background check.
- Experience working with children, preferably children with disabilities.
- Commitment to becoming professionally prepared to supervise young children.
- Adherence to the requirements of the Code of Ethics for the Education Profession.

Work Environment
While performing the responsibilities of this position, the work environment includes usual school conditions. The environment may be noisy during high student traffic.
