SpEd Self-Contained Paraeducator - Multiple Positions

About the role

The special education self-contained paraeducator assists the supervising teacher by performing a variety of tasks to support instruction and classroom programming. The main responsibilities include implementing drill and practice exercises, keeping accurate data, supervising and monitoring student instructional activities, providing personal maintenance care, and supporting a safe learning environment.

Responsibilities

• Implement drill and practice exercises designed by the teacher to groups, as well as individual students.
• Keep accurate data on assigned groups and/or individual students.
• Supervise and monitor student instructional activities within the school and in the assigned community settings.
• Provide personal maintenance care for students related to self-help and hygiene.
• Implement appropriate procedures consistently in managing the behavior of students in accordance with district policies.
• Support a school environment that helps students develop and maintain a positive self-concept.
• Safeguard the safety of students.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 48 hours of college credit or pass the ParaPro exam if working in a Title 1 school.
• Prior work with those with disabilities preferred.

Qualifications

• Ability to follow directions and manage stress.
• Ability to interact positively with students, staff, and administration.
• Ability to make suggestions but follow directions.
• Physical ability to stand, walk, reach, stoop, kneel, and crouch.
• Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs.
