SPED Para II for Occupational Therapy (OT/Fine Motor)- Elementary

Non-contract position, 5.0 hours per day at an hourly rate of $17.58.

About the Role

The Special Education Para-Educator II for Occupational Therapy (OT) provides support to the instructional program under the direction of an assigned Occupational Therapist. Responsibilities include assisting with fine motor development services, care, and instruction of special needs students in various settings such as regular classrooms, 1:1 sessions, or self-contained classrooms.

Responsibilities

• Adapts classroom activities, assignments, and/or materials under the direction of the supervising teacher to support and reinforce classroom objectives and IEP goals.
• Administers immediate first aid and medical assistance as instructed by a health care professional to meet students' immediate health care needs.
• Assists students with self-care activities (e.g., toileting, washing, changing diapers, eating, dressing, grooming) to maintain personal hygiene.
• Attends job-specific trainings (e.g., first aid, behavior management) to acquire and convey information relative to job functions.
• Collects data to support teachers in the classroom and prepare reports or process forms.
• Communicates with supervising instructional staff and professional support personnel to assist in evaluating progress and implementing IEP objectives.
• Implements behavioral plans designed by the IEP team for students with behavior disorders or other special conditions to reinforce learning concepts and acquire appropriate social and school skills.
• Maintains instructional materials and manual/electronic files/records (e.g., decorating bulletin boards, making art projects, correcting papers) to ensure availability of items and meet mandated requirements.
• Monitors students during assigned periods in various school environments (e.g., restrooms, playgrounds, hallways, bus loading zones, cafeteria, parking lots) to maintain a safe and positive learning environment.
• Provides instruction to students in individual and group activities (e.g., academic subjects, social skills, daily living skills) under the supervision of the assigned teacher to reinforce instructional objectives, implement IEP plans, and ensure student success.
• Attends meetings and in-service presentations (e.g., first aid, CPR, emergency procedures) to acquire and convey information relative to job functions.
• Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Requirements

• 16+ years old.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Job-related experience is desired.

Pay

Hourly rate: $17.58.

Schedule

5.0 hours per day.
