SPED (M/M) Resource - Elementary

About the role

This is a half-time resource position for the remainder of the school year with some flexibility on hours and days. Under the general supervision of the School Principal, the Elementary Special Education Resource Teacher facilitates student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills by implementing specialized instruction using research-based interventions and district curriculum, documenting teaching and student progress, and creating a flexible, safe, and optimal learning environment. The role involves writing and implementing IEP goals and behavior intervention plans, ensuring timelines are followed, and collaborating with general education teachers and related service providers to support student progress.

Responsibilities

• Organize and facilitate developmentally appropriate learning opportunities to ensure student participation and academic success, fostering a smooth transition to elementary school.
• Adapt classroom work to provide students with instructional materials that address individualized learning within established curriculum guidelines.
• Assess student progress toward objectives, expectations, and/or goals to provide feedback to students, parents, and administration.
• Advise parents and/or legal guardians of student progress to communicate expectations, achievements, and methods for improvement.
• Direct assistant teachers, special education paraeducators, volunteers, and/or student workers to provide an effective classroom program and address individual student needs.
• Collaborate effectively with special education teachers, related service providers, instructional coaches, and colleagues to provide appropriate services as outlined in the IEP.
• Manage student behavior to provide a safe and optimal learning environment.
• Monitor preschool students in various educational environments to ensure a safe and positive learning environment.
• Model conversation, manners, clean-up activities, listening skills, and other appropriate social and interpersonal behaviors.
• Prepare written materials such as weekly newsletters, assessment reports, and lesson plans to communicate with parents, document student progress, and meet mandated requirements.
• Attend IEP meetings for students as needed.
• Respond to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns or direct to appropriate personnel.
• Administer first aid and/or dispense medications to meet immediate health care needs.
• Respond to inquiries from teachers, parents, administrators, and others to resolve issues, provide information, or direction.
• Participate in various meetings to convey and/or gather required information.
• Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Requirements

• Certification: SPED license is required.
• Mild/Moderate Disabilities (M/M) endorsement is required.
